There are a lot of sites online...serious sites...with reams of technical knowledge and mired in the depths of their trenchant and ponderous, you know.... seriousness! I want this site to be a bit fun, light and definitely spirited. A hard to grasp concept, for sure, but isn't that true about wind? You can't grasp it, you can only see its effects. It's Breezy! You know what I mean?
No $$ = no IPv6
After a short downtime, this site is back up on a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex. I've rebuilt my mail server and am now using Postfix for my MTA since I ran into some curious issues with Courier 0.60.
Mail Server
It was fun rebuilding the server in any case since I learned how to integrate Postfix with SpamAssassin and even retained Courier's excellent maildrop application for this reason. I'm still using Courier for IMAP/S as well as SquirrelMail for my webmail solution.
Web Server
I've just moved Breezy! site from a physical PC (PIII 1GHz w/ 512 MB RAM) to a new VMware appliance hosted on VMware Server version 2.0
I copied all my MySQL database files and website directories to the new device and, other than a sidebar where I had to install MySQL support for PHP, it worked! I'm surprised and not a little grateful.
Now I have properly split my mail server and web server onto different devices...being a big believer in separation of services.
Please, please, please: If you see any weird idiosynchrocies contact me!

I just bought a Blackberry Curve 8330 smartphone and am having a bunch of fun with it. Here's a link to it on the RIM site: (click here)

It's got everything:
Well, now you know! The book that I've been working on for the last four months is an Exam Cram title for the new CCNA Security certification. Here's a link on Amazon.com -> CCNA Security Exam Cram (Exam IINS 640-553)

The NetTiki! / Breezy! Site is now available to users of the IPv6 backbone of the Internet at http://ipv6.breezy.ca

I recently setup NetTiki's perimeter router through an IPv6 tunnel broker for IPv6 access. NetTiki! is a site for early adopters and I thought it was time to try something a little leading edge if not bleeding edge!

My kids love playing MapleStory. It is a Mass Multiplying Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) that features 2D side-scrolling action with multiple levels. It includes multiple levels, worlds, character types, etc. In short, it is massively addictive and hundreds of thousands of kids play it worldwide. They have been pestering me for weeks to download and install a private MapleStory server so that they could invite their friends and customize the environment to their liking. It would even give them a chance to be general moderators (GMs) with all its attendant responsibilities.
I guess it was time to update my network diagram. Here's a peak at what's happening in the NetTiki corner of the Internet (explanation after the graphic) You can also download a somewhat larger Powerpoint version of the same graphic by using the links at the end of this post:

The ASA 5505 and the Cisco 871 ISR are connected to one another on a common vlan, vlan 2.
The ASA 5505 is trunked into:
I've been tasked by Que Press / Pearson Ed to write a new Cisco book as part of their very popular "Exam Cram" series. The book will be focused on network security. Beyond that I can't say too much more (yet) other than it will all be done by the end of June and hopefully on the shelves by July....just in time for a bunch of you to buy tons of copies for yourselves and your family, friends and colleagues!
It's a daunting project but one that I'm definitely looking forward to. I've already got almost 2 of the 10 chapters complete.
